Learn how to make beautiful traditional hand made wet felt from Merino fibres with Clare Bullock. Once you understand the basics of traditional wet felt making you can use your new skills in a wide variety of different projects.

Materials

  • Washing up bowl
  • Merino Tops (roving) – Enough for your project
  • Old towels if you don’t have a suitable tray
  • Decorators plastic sheet – available from most DIY stores
  • Bubble wrap
  • Rubber anti slip mat (the sort of thing used to stop a rug moving)
  • Olive Oil or Vegetable Soap – Available from health food shops or online. It’s much kinder to your hands than a fragranced soap!
  • Felt bulb or Plastic bottle (2 pint milk bottle with pin holes punched in the lid works best for me) to hold your warm water.
  • Supply of warm and cold water
  • Acrylic paint of your choice of colour
  • Stencil (included in instructions or create your own)
  • Masking Tape
  • Sponge
  • Selection of threads and beads to decorate
  • Suitable sewing needle

Clare Bullock

Clare is a Feltmaker from the UK and has been a textile artist for over 20 years. She specializes in a range of textile techniques, one of which being Nuno felting. Felt is always at the core of her making.

Throughout her creative journey, she has explored a wide range of art styles, including feltmaking, dressmaking, mixed media, embroidery, and dyeing fabrics and thread.

She enjoys combining felt and mixed media together, of course, adding a little bit of stitching. She finds her inspiration for her work from her moods.
